The product
Snus
Lawful. Switzerland is not an EU member state; snus was legalised following a Federal Supreme Court ruling in 2019.
Nicotine pouches
Lawful. The Tabakproduktegesetz (TabPG) and its ordinance came into force on 1 October 2024 and bring tobacco products, e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches under one regime, with a uniform minimum age of 18 nationwide, product notification duties, health warnings and strict advertising rules.
How you may sell it
From a machine
LimitedMay it be sold from a machine?
The strongest position in Europe after Sweden, and the only market where the regulation addresses machines head-on rather than by silence. The Tabakprodukteverordnung makes an age-verification system MANDATORY for sales through vending machines, alongside online sales and internet advertising. Verification must be against an official identity document, physical or electronic — ID card, foreigner’s permit, e-ID or a secure electronic identity such as SwissID. The type of control system is left to the operator provided it actually enforces the sales prohibition.
On display
LimitedMay it be shown — shelves, cases, branded coolers?
Open today and closing. The TabPG in force since October 2024 regulates advertising and promotion but does not prohibit advertising at points of sale, so a branded fixture is currently possible subject to those rules. Parliament passed a partial revision on 20 June 2025 — implementing the “Kinder und Jugendliche ohne Tabakwerbung” initiative carried in February 2022 — which prohibits advertising at points of sale, in publicly accessible places, and online. It is expected in force early 2027 once the accompanying ordinance is revised. Treat that as the deadline for any branded cooler programme here.
