The product
Nicotine pouches
Prohibited outright. From 24 July 2026 there is no lawful pathway for a consumer to buy or import nicotine pouches in Australia: they are no longer available on prescription, personal importation is prohibited, access through the Special Access Scheme and the Authorised Prescriber Scheme has been removed, and pharmacists may not compound them. Supply and advertising offences carry penalties up to five years imprisonment and fines above a million dollars. Some states go further — South Australia bans them under its own tobacco and e-cigarette legislation.
